Jadeja ruled out of Brisbane Test with injury

Team India received a massive blow ahead of the fourth Test in Brisbane as their star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been pulled out of the Border Gavaskar Trophy series with an injury. India will play the Brisbane Test without him. Jadeja is sidelined for at least 4-6 weeks with a fractured thumb. He is also unlikely to play the first two Tests against England at home next month.

The all-rounder picked up an injury after he was hit on his left thumb by a lethal Mitchel Starc’s bouncer on Day 3 of the SCG Test. He did not step out on the field during Australia’s second innings even though he carried and remained not out during India’s first innings when they were reduced to 44.

Before his injury, he was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors in the first innings. He was the top wicket-taker for India as he took 4 wickets to his name. After his injury, he was taken for scans in Sydney and the medical reports confirmed that the all-rounder will have to be sidelined for more than a month in order to recover himself.

Chasing a mammoth target of 407 during India’s second innings, Team India were in all sorts of trouble after losing Pant and Pujara for 97 and 77. After losing 5 wickets, Hanuma Vihari and Ravichandran Ashwin were trying their best to stand firm against the deadly Australian bowling attack.

During that time, cameras were panned into Ravindra Jadeja at the dressing room as the all-rounder looked set to bat. He already put on his gloves and had injections as well.

Navdeep Saini who was sitting next to Jadeja helped him by peeling banana such that Jadeja would eat it without any difficulty. The heart-touching video went viral on social media platforms. Thankfully, Ashwin and Vihari faced so many balls and survived the attack as the SCG Test ended in a draw.

“Ravindra Jadeja suffered a blow to his left thumb while batting on Day 3 of the third Border-Gavaskar Test that concluded on Monday. He later went for scans and the results have shown that he has dislocated his thumb,” BCCI stated in a release while also confirming that he will not play the final Test.

“The all-rounder will now consult a hand specialist in Sydney before he returns to India. He will then head to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for further management of his injury. Jadeja will not be available for the fourth and final Test against Australia.” The series is currently level at 1-1. The fourth and final Test will be held in Brisbane from January 15-19 at the Gabba.
