South Africa land in Pakistan after 14 years

South Africa cricket team have landed in Pakistan’s Karachi on Saturday (January 16) for the first time in 14 years. The two teams will play two Tests and three T20 internationals.

The last time South Africa were in Pakistan was back in 2007 when they played five ODIs and two Tests in the country.

The first Test of the series will be played in Karachi from January 26, with the second one scheduled to start from February 4 in Rawalpindi. Lahore will be the sole host for all three T20 internationals on February 11, 13 and 14.

The Proteas side, led by Quinton de Kock, reached Karachi via a chartered flight on Saturday morning and was tested for COVID-19 upon arrival. The 21-member squad had two Covid-19 tests before their departure from Johannesburg as well, which all came back negative.

De Kock and Co. were whisked from the airport under state-head level security accorded by the hosts, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Prior to leaving their country for Pakistan, South Africa head coach Mark Boucher had seemed to be quite satisfied with the security arrangements in Pakistan.

“We’ve had our (security) guys go there (to Pakistan) and do a recce of the situation and they have said it is safe,” Boucher had told reporters on Friday (January 15).

“So from my side there are no issues, we have to get back there and start playing cricket,” he had added.
