Shaheen Afridi has been ruled out of the upcoming 2022 Asia Cup for Pakistan due to a knee ligament injury.
Ahead of the 2022 Asian Cup, the Pakistani cricket team has suffered a heavy blow. Pakistan’s main pacemaker Shaheen Afridi was ruled out of the 2022 Asian Cup due to a knee ligament injury. The rhythm spearhead is expected to miss 4-6 weeks of action, and should be fit for the T20 World Cup in Australia.
Afridi injured his knee ligament during the last test series against Sri Lanka and has not played a single match since then. He is currently in the Netherlands with the Pakistani national team and will continue to be with the national team to complete his rehabilitation. PCB Medical Director Dr. Najeebullah Soomro has confirmed the update.
“I spoke to Shaheen and he is understandably upset by the news, but he is a brave young man who has promised to come back strong to serve his country and his team. Although he has made progress during his rehabilitation in Rotterdam, it is now clear that he will require more time and he is likely to return to competitive cricket in October,” said Dr. Najeebullah Soomro.
Pakistan will play their first match against their arch-rivals India, and Afridi will be greatly missed in that match. Both sides last played in the T20 World Cup last year when Pakistan won the match by 10 wickets. Shaheen cast an incredible spell in that game and created havoc in the Indian top order.
The India team struggled with a pacemaker in his left arm, and it’s clear the Pakistan team will miss Shaheen Afridi’s impact in the Asian Cup.
