Bangladesh has lost its strength due to the absence of Mashrafe: Akram

The omission of former Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza from the ODI team has been a major issue in the country’s cricket arena for some time now. Former national team captain and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director Akram Khan thinks that Bangladesh team has lost its strength due to the absence of Mashrafe.

With the 2023 World Cup in mind, the selectors are leaning towards the youth. Mashrafe has been left out to give a chance to emerging cricketers. Bangladesh became a terrible team in one-day cricket with Mashrafe’s captaincy, got incredible success. After leaving the captaincy, he also left out of the team sadly.

Akram thinks that without Mashrafe, the strength of the team has diminished and the importance of his experience will be felt by the team, playing without him. The chairman of the cricket operations committee said, “Mashrafe is a great player, no doubt. He is also one of our best captains. So not having a player like him in the squad has reduced the strength of the team. Everyone will feel the lack of experience which Mashrafe has.”

In the absence of Mashrafe, the team management may have to think anew about the pace attack. There are more work places, so there are a few new faces in the initial squad. Asked whether anyone would make his debut in the series, Akram said, “Selectors can say, it is up to the selectors to decide. Let’s see what happens. There are two matches (warm-up). We will give the ODI team on 16th (January 16) probably. Then you all know everything.”
