Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka 1st ODI Highlights – May 23, 2021 – Cricket Highlights 2 – Highlights Guru

Tamim Iqbal: “Looks a good wicket, batting first, need to keep the heat in concern as well. We are going with three seamers and two-seamers. Any series’ first game is very important, first ten overs important, need to set the tone and see where we are at. We’ve been playing some cricket last 3-4 months, training hard, need to put on a show. The situation is not ideal in the bubble and away from family, but the passion for playing for the country…can’t get bigger than that. Need to play for fans, keep believing in ourselves, and put on a better show. Recent results are not in our way, but we hope to change that.

Kusal Perera: “Honoured to captain Sri Lanka. It’s a very good batting track, happy to chase. We would’ve bowled first anyway, we are playing an extra batter. A lot of young players in this game, also seniors are not in the squad. Seniors want to give them chance to play internationals, hope the youngsters do well.”

Post Match Presentation.

Tamim Iqbal: “Happy with the way we fought. Mushfiqur, Mahmudullah were superb. Young Afif batted superbly. We did a decent job scoring 250 because it was two-paced. Definitely good to get back to winning ways. Losing is no fun, we lost 10 games across formats in a row. Winning is happiness. Still got two games, hope to continue this.”

Mushfiqur Rahim is Player of the Match for his 84 off 87 balls. “It wasn’t an easy wicket to bat on. When Shakib, Liton got out early, there was pressure. Tamim batted well, allowed me to take my time. And then Riyad Bhai was superb. I am not a big guy, not a Pollard or Russell, I stuck to my strengths, took my time. I had to keep one end safe and that’s what I did. The finishing touch from Riyad and Afif was superb. These conditions aren’t ideal to play, it’s not just hot, the humidity takes a lot out of you but credit to our players.”

Kusal Perera: “Not good to end on the losing side, but there are a lot of positives. Wanindu was superb. We bowled well. Bangladesh is a good side, our bowlers aren’t experienced but they did well to restrict them to 257. Hasaranga is highly rated, he backs his strength and to bowl 10 overs in these conditions was a great effort. The top-order batsmen need to bat at least 30-35 overs. Isuru and Wanindu gave us a chance, but credit to their bowlers. We have two games and we have to come back strongly.”
