BCB, SLC in talks to reschedule Test series

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has started negotiations with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) to reschedule the postponed Test series next year.

Bangladesh were supposed to tour Sri Lanka for three Tests as part of World Test Championship in July. But the tour did not go on due to pandemic and Bangladesh players were yet to start training.

Later, the two boards almost finalised things with the series being rescheduled to start from October 24. But BCB had objections on the 14-day mandatory quarantine rules. SLC met the government several times but no positive news came as the tour was postponed for the second time.

Both Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have a free window in April and May 2021. The Test Championship matches could be played in that slot ahead of the Final at Lord’s, which is scheduled for June.

“Yes, we have started talking with SLC regarding the postponed tour as we are keen to play the series in between the tight schedule that we have next year,” BCB director Akram Khan told Cricbuzz.

International cricket may return to Sri Lanka in January with England touring the island country for two Tests, which were postponed from March 2020. Surprisingly, England will not be needing to stay in quarantine. After arriving on January 3, they will play the first Test from January 11 and the second from January 23.

On the other hand, Bangladesh will host the West Indies in January-February for a full series. The Tigers will then head to New Zealand to play limited-overs series in March.
