BCCI intervenes as India denied basic facilities in Brisbane: Reports

BCCI top officials have gotten in touch with Cricket Australia (CA) as Team India’s hotel in Brisbane “lacks basic facilities”, reported Indian media on Tuesday (January 12).

According to reports, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, secretary Jay Shah and CEO Hemang Amin have all got in touch with their CA counterparts after complaints reached them.

CA immediately assured the BCCI officials that from here on the Indian contingent will be made to feel comfortable.

It has been learnt that the Brisbane hotel Indian players are staying in had no room service or house keeping, while other facilities were also not of international standards.

“There was no room service or house keeping facilities. The gym is very basic and not of international standards and the swimming pool can’t be accessed. This wasn’t what they were promised when they checked in,” BCCI quoted a senior BCCI source as saying.

“When the manager enquired about how these things are not being taken care of, all they said was, ‘the rule applies to both Indian and Australian teams. There is no one team that has been subjected to hard quarantine rules,’” he added.

However, the source confirmed that the players were allowed to meet with each other, as he said: “Yes, they have been provided with a team room and are allowed to meet each other inside the hotel.”

It should be noted that the touring side’s trip to Brisbane for the fourth and final Test of the series was already under the scanner due to Queensland’s strict coronavirus protocols. Eventually some exceptions were made for Rahane and Co.

India will face Australia in the series decider at The Gabba from January 15. The series is now locked at 1-1. After conceding an embarrassing defeat in the first match, India bounced back superbly in the second one before producing an epic performance at the SCG to draw the third Test.
