Dilshan fifty helps Sri Lanka cruise to third victory

Sri Lanka Legends have picked up yet another way-too-comfortable victory in the ongoing Road Safety World Series T20 2020-21, as they beat South Africa Legends by 9 wickets on Monday (March 8).

This is Sri Lanka’s third victory out of four matches, which cements their second place in the points table with 12 points. India Legends too have as many points, but they played one match less and have a better net run-rate.

Lankan captain Tilakaratne Dilshan once again put up a great all-round performance and led his side from the front. He opened both bowling and batting for his side, and shone in both disciplines.

After finishing with figures of 4-0-11-1 with the ball in hand, he top-scored for his side on their way to chasing a paltry target of 90 runs set by their South African counterparts.

Dilshan remained unbeaten till the end with 50 off 40 balls, as his side cruised to victory inside 12 overs. His innings featured 7 boundaries.

Dilshan also shared an unbeaten 69-run stand with wicketkeeper-batsman Upul Tharanga, who scored 27 off 31 balls with the help of 5 boundaries.

For South Africa Legends, Garnett Kruger bowled out Sanath Jayasuriya, who scored 8 off 9 balls, striking a couple of shots to the boundary.

Earlier in the match after being sent to bat first, South Africa Legends were rattled out for 89 runs in 18.5 overs.

While Andrew Puttick was the top-scorer for his side, making 39 off 46 balls with 4 fours, Zander de Bruyn (15 off 14, 2 fours) was the only other batsman to go beyond single digits.

For Sri Lanka Legends, it was a combined bowling effort, as all six bowlers of the side got their names onto the scoreboard.

Nuwan Kulasekara, Rangana Herath and Jayasuriya shared six wickets between them, while Dilshan, Dhammika Prasad and Ajantha Mendis grabbed one wicket apiece.

Brief scores: South Africa Legends 89 all-out in 18.5 overs (Puttick 39, De Bruyn 15; Herath 2-11) lost to Sri Lanka Legends 92/1 in 13.2 overs (Dilshan 50*, Tharanga 27*; Kruger 1/23) by 9 wickets.
