England will tour Sri Lanka for two Test matches in January 2021 to mark Sri Lanka’s first international series since pandemic.

The two Tests, part of World Test Championship, will be held at the Galle International Cricket Stadium. The first Test will start on January 14, while the second on the 22nd.

“The schedule for England Men’s Test tour of Sri Lanka has been confirmed with two matches being played behind closed doors in Galle next month,” ECB said in a release.

“The England and Wales Cricket Board and Sri Lanka Cricket have agreed to biosecurity and travel plans for what is a rearranged tour following the postponement in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.”

England will not require to stay under mandatory quarantine as they will start sessions in within three days of arrival. England will leave for Hambantota on a chartered flight on January 2. They will start training and practice sessions on January 5.

Originally, the series was scheduled to take place in March 2020 when England had already been staying in Sri Lanka. But as the COVID-19 was starting to spread around the world, English touring side returned home after taking part in warm-ups.

Sri Lanka’s home series against Bangladesh was supposed to be held in October-November but Sri Lanka Cricket and Bangladesh Cricket Board had disagreements over 14-day quarantine period on arrival. Bangladesh then decided not to tour the island country.

Sri Lanka’s two-Test tour to South Africa in December-January is under scrutiny following England’s decision to pull out of the tour due to COVID-19 outbreak in a bio-bubble in Cape Town.
