Fizz 5-for in vain as Shakib, Taskin power Mohammedan to third win

Mohammedan Sporting Club are placed second in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) T20, behind rivals Abahani Limited, following a clinical bowling performance that has led them to 27-run win over Prime Bank Cricket Club.

Prime Bank’s Mustafizur Rahman has attained his joint T20 best figures of 5 wickets for 22 runs. All of his wickets came in the death overs – 18th and 20th – to restrict Mohammedan to 150/8.

Opener Parvez Hossain Emon set the tone for Mohammedan after they elected to bat first. He raised a half-century in which he struck 38-ball 50 runs with 3 fours and 4 sixes. The other opener Mahmudul Hasan made 23 off 18.

Shamsur Rahman (33 off 34) and skipper Shakib Al Hasan (20 off 15) were the only other batters to reach double-figure mark as Mohammedan lost 6 for 12 in a spell which Mustafizur sent three – including Shakib and Shamsur – in the 18th over that shifted the momentum towards Prime Bank.

Prime Bank captain Anamul Haque is still in search of form. He was back by Taskin Ahmed for 3 in the second over of the run chase. After Tamim Iqbal’s (20 off 20) dismissal, the scoring rate came down with wickets falling down at regular intervals.

Shakib claimed two wickets in a maiden over (9th). Taskin and Shuvagata Hom also sent down a maiden each.

Mohammad Mithun (25 off 18) remained the top scorer for Prime Bank, who were skittled for 123 in 19.3 overs.

Taskin and Abu Jayed Rahi shared six wickets between them – three apiece. Shuvagata and Abu Hider Rony took one each.

Mustafizur was adjudged player of the match for picking up his second five-wicket haul. Interestingly, he has a T20I best of 5/22 that came against New Zealand in the 2016 T20 World Cup.
