Golden duck for Shakib, but Mohammedan prevail



Despite captain Shakib Al Hasan’s off-day with the bat, Mohammedan Sporting Club have thumped Partex Sporting Club by six wickets in match 12 of Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier League (DPL) T20.

Shakib, who started with a wicket maiden, went for runs in the later overs finishing up with 1/31 in four overs. His outing with the bat was gloomy, as he got bowled for a golden duck in the run chase.

Partex put a competitive score of 157/5 on board after electing to bat first. Sayem Alam (2) was given lbw off Shakib’s first ball in the third over of the innings. Abbas Musa and skipper Tasamul Haque took off from there in a handy 95-run partnership.

Musa, playing his second T20 match, played an aggressive role right from the word go, smashing 5 fours and sixes each in his 44-ball 64 runs.

Taskin Ahmed came in with two wickets in an over, seeing the back of Musa. Tasamul was run out on 59 off 56, hitting 6 fours and a six.

Tasamul returned with back-to-back wickets of dangerous-looking Parvez Hossain Emon, who hit two sixes in his 17, and his counterpart Shakib in the fourth over.

Mahmudul Hasan kept on pressing forward before becoming Tasamul’s third scalp. He made 38 off 26 to keep Mohammedan well in the game. At 78/4, it was upto Irfan Sukkur and Nadif Chowdhury to carry their side towards the target.

An unbroken 80-run stand for the fifth-wicket saw Mohammedan register their second win of the tournament with 14 balls remaining. While Nadif anchored with 27* off 23, Irfan struck the fastest fifty of this tournament – in 28 balls. The latter scored a quick-fire 29-ball 52* with 5 fours and 2 sixes.
