Before the toss.
Kagiso Rabada: “KKR have been playing well, they are a dangerous side. They are looking to be in good form. Not going to be an easy game, we need to do the same things we have been doing.”
Kolkata Knight Riders vs Delhi Capitals Highlights today, Tuesday 28-09-2021 – 41st Match, Indian Premier League season 14th from Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
KKR won the toss and chose to bowl.
Morgan: “Not sure how the wicket will play. It’s not a belter, it’s not too difficult. As a team, we are very focused on game by game. It wasn’t long ago that we were second from bottom. Guys are putting in good performances collectively and individually. My form ‘not really a concern. It goes around like a roller coaster, I try to ride it as I can. Russell misses out, Southee plays. Warrier replaces Prasidh.
Pant: “Wicket is slow, 150-160 will be good. We are always taking one game at a time. Hopefully, we can win today and confirm the qualification. Shaw is injured, Steve Smith comes in.”
Team changes: Two changes for the Knight Riders. Russell out due to injury, and Prasidh Krishna left-out. Tim Southee and Sandeep Warrier, the Kerala fast bowler who now plays for Tamil Nadu, are in. The Capitals are without Prithvi Shaw, who has a niggle. Steven Smith is in. They had the extra overseas player spot since Marcus Stoinis was replaced by Lalit Yadav in the Capitals’ last game.
IPL 2021 Points Table
Kolkata Knight Riders team: Shubman Gill, Venkatesh Iyer, Rahul Tripathi, Nitish Rana, Eoin Morgan, Dinesh Karthik, Tim Southee, Lockie Ferguson, Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy, Sandeep Warrier.
Delhi Capitals team: Shikhar Dhawan, Steven Smith, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Shimron Hetmyer, Lalit Yadav, Axar Patel, R Ashwin, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Avesh Khan.
Losing captain Rishabh Pant: “I think we were 10 short, not much. We knew the wicket would slow down in the second innings. But every team is trying to win the match. We want to give 100% and if it doesn’t go our way we will learn and move on. Batting was pretty difficult for new batters. We wanted to capitalise in the end with the bat, but we lost wickets and ended up 10 short. Bowling performance – really happy. There isn’t a massive change that we need to do.”
Post match presentation
Venkatesh Iyer, two wickets today: “Felt good with the ball. Always had the confidence that I can deliver with the ball. I do practice the yorker a lot. I practice with my bowling coach Anand Rajan. For me, it’s about accuracy and bowling to my field. As long as my execution is current, I am extremely satisfied. I think to be a player who can help in all three departments is good. I thrive fielding as well. I’ve always wanted to be that cricketer.”
Eoin Morgan, the winning captain: “Delighted. Tough playing two-day games in three days. But delighted to get a couple of points. Winning toss and fielding is not an easy thing to do. Guys were more calculated today, and it came off. When the outfield is slow, if you are cagey it can come back to hurt you. Both sides played the game hard. On a hot day, things can boil over. Thankfully it didn’t. We all played in the right spirit. And it’s a tough contest against Delhi Capitals. Full credit has to go to our coach Brendon McCullum. It’s his ethos, his mindset, and the boys have bought into that.”
Sunil Narine, the Player of the Match: “Watching a few games here, knew there’s a bit of spin here. Didn’t want to get too full. I’ve been through a lot. Need to give credit to the bowling coach, that’s a plus and that’s been key for me to come back. Batting in the middle-order is challenging. It’s pleasing to see hard work paying off after a long time. I think we are playing some good cricket. A few niggles, but that said we are playing good cricket.”
