The home team collected 23 points from their 10 World Cup qualifying matches to finish second behind Iran in Group A, but ended their campaign with a 1-0 loss to the United Arab Emirates in late March.

Japan will play four friendlies in the next two weeks, taking on Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Egypt, and all four matches will serve as valuable preparation for the upcoming World Cup.
