Mahmudullah shines with bat and ball in Khulna’s fourth win



Minister Group Rajshahi have taken a fourth straight loss in Bangabandhu T20 Cup 2020, the latest defeat being a margin of five wickets to Gemcon Khulna at Mirpur. 

While Shakib Al Hasan is yet to show some form with the bat, another big name – Mahmudullah Riyad has had his way back to runs. Mahmudullah’s late blasts took his side to a fourth win. Khulna chased down 146 with four balls to spare.

The opening stand between Jahurul Islam and Zakir Hasan (19) put on 56 runs. Jahurul top-scored with 40-ball 43 runs. Imrul Kayes hit 27 off 20 at No.3 as Khulna seemed to be cruising.

Mohammad Saifuddin, who was playing his first match in T20 Cup, bowled Shakib in the 15th over to give his side a real chance to clinch victory. Shakib’s lean run continues as he made 4 from 5. Shamim Hossain Patwary soon fell for 7.

The 19th over by Saifuddin had 15 runs leaked, including no-ball and boundaries from Mahmudullah, who saw his side go over the line in the last over. The Khulna skipper remained unbeaten on 19-ball 31 runs, hitting 3 fours and a maximum.

Rajshahi were off to a flier with their captain Najmul Hossain Shanto racing to a second fifty in the tournament. Although Rajshahi lost Anisul Islam Emon. Mohammad Ashraful was left out after consecutive failures in the tournament.

Khulna triggered a middle-order collapse after the departure of Shanto, who hit 6 fours and 2 sixes in 38-ball 55 runs knock. Shanto’s counterpart Mahmudullah dismissed him in the 13th over.

Nurul Hasan Sohan’s brisk 21-ball 37* runs (3 fours and 2 sixes) helped Rajshahi post a competitive total of 145/5.

Shuvagata Hom took 2 for 25 in three overs, while Shakib (0/17) and Hasan Mahmud (0/16) were bowled tight in wicketless economical spells.
