Mayank’s dismissal was dream ball for any bowler: Chahar

CSK fans were absolutely delighted with the way Deepak Chahar went about his business in the game against Punjab Kings at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The fast bowler showcased his bowling masterclass as he swung both ways with control and troubled the opposition’s batting line-up.

Chahar chipped in with mind-boggling bowling figures as he conceded just 13 runs and took 4 wickets in his quota of 4 overs. This is his career-best bowling figures in the IPL. The highlight of his performance came when he bowled a maiden over and that too in an IPL game.

The fast bowler started it all with a sensational delivery to smash Mayank Agarwal’s off stump, and then went on to dismantle the top half of Punjab Kings’ batting. Chahar got enough assistance from the pitch as he assessed the conditions quite perfectly.

Chahar helped CSK restrict PBKS to just 106/8 in their full quota of 20 overs. Shah Rukh Khan was the lone warrior in Punjab’s batting as he scored 47 off 36 balls including 4 fours and 2 sixes. In reply, CSK aced the run-chase in 15.4 overs.

“I think it was more seam than swing and we bowled in the right areas. Last year was difficult for all of us. I had Covid, was in quarantine for 28 days and after that, I played in just 4 days. It was difficult for me to straightaway play a game from quarantine.

We planned, prepared well for the game today, had to do a lot of planning because the first two games here were high-scoring. We got some time to prepare and things went our way as we executed well,” Chahar said after PBKS’s batting.

Moeen Ali top-scored with 46 off 31 including 7 fours and a six whereas Faf du Plessis scored 36 off 33 with the help of 3 fours and a six. The 28-year-old Chahar was named the player of the match for his exceptional bowling performance.

“I think Mayank’s wicket I enjoyed the most – a dream ball for a bowler to swing and hit top of off stump. You want to pitch it close to the middle and then move to hit the top of off. First over, when the catch went to Ruturaj, it was a quick one, only Jaddu could’ve taken that so I was like he should’ve been there. He’s one of the best in the world, has taken so many catches off my bowling.

I want 11 Jaddus on the field. I am always the one who starts the tone for the match. If I take a wicket or bowl a maiden over then obviously we can take the momentum. It’s a big responsibility I’ve been having since the last four years and Mahi bhai has shown faith in me.

Hopefully, I can deliver in some more matches. As a bowler, my plan is to bowl dots if I don’t take wickets. The bowlers from the other end will also be able to take wickets,” the Agra-born seamer said at the post-match presentation.
