Parvez ton trumps Shanto in 221 chase

The best T20 match at the SBNCS, Mirpur? It might be. It is two hundreds from two promising batsmen as Fortune Barishal have eclipsed Minister Group Rajshahi’s 220 with eight wickets in hand in match No.15 of Bangabandhu T20 Cup.

Barishal’s winning shot came from the bat of Parvez Hossain Emon, who breached 42-ball 100* runs as he guided Barishal to victory with 11 balls to go. The 18-year-old has set up a record of the fastest T20 century by a Bangladeshi.

Parvez paired with his skipper Tamim Iqbal in a brisk 117-run stand for the second wicket after opener Saif Hassan departed for 15-ball 27, setting the tone for Barishal to take down 221. The young Parvez smacked 9 fours and 7 sixes in his knock.

Tamim played an anchoring role with 37-ball 53 runs. Afif Hossain, who was in search of runs, supported Parvez with 16-ball 26*.

Parvez came to bat one down and began the onslaught with his unorthodox style of batting. His race to 100 was tight as Barishal were close to the target. He hit Mohammad Saifuddin for a six down the ground on the fifth ball of the 18th over. He kept the strike with a single as he and Barishal exactly needed 4 runs.

The southpaw drove Anisul Islam Emon for a boundary through cover to bring up his ton and team’s win as well as the highest successful chase at Mirpur.

Earlier in the afternoon, Najmul Hossain Shanto recorded a 52-ball ton. He hit Taskin Ahmed for a six in the cow corner to bring up his second T20 century. Earlier this year, he made 115* against Dhaka Platoon for Khulna Tigers in the BPL.

Shanto hits 109, falls to hat-trick man Kamrul

The Rajshahi captain’s knock ended on 55-ball 109 runs as he clobbered 11 sixes and 4 fours in his innings. He was involved in 131-run opening stand with Anisul, the highest partnership in the tournament.

The duo of Shanto and Anisul gave Rajshahi a perfect start after being sent into bat. Anisul scored 39-ball 69 with 7 fours and 3 sixes.

Rajshahi put on 220/7 in 20 overs, the first 200-plus total in the T20 Cup. Barishal pacer Kamrul Islam Rabbi took four of the seven Rajshahi wickets, and all four came in the last over of the innings.

Rabbi first sent back Nurul Hasan Sohan for 12 on the first ball of the over. Centurion Shanto hit straight to cover fielder Tamim Iqbal on the next delivery. Farhad Reza slogged the hat-trick ball to long-off.

Saifuddin hit Kamrul for a boundary and then departed as the fourth wicket in the over. Fazle Mahmud hit the last ball for a six over extra cover as Kamrul finished on 4 for 49.

This is Rajshahi’s fifth loss in a row after winning the first two matches in the tournament. Barishal have ended three-match losing streak to bag their second win.
