Rohit passes fitness test; likely to play last 2 Tests against Australia

Rohit Sharma sustained a hamstring during this season’s IPL before steering Mumbai Indians to fifth IPL title at the United Arab Emirates. After winning the fifth trophy as a captain and sixth as a player, he took the flight to Bangalore to reach the National Cricket Academy. Nobody in the BCCI knew why Rohit headed to the NCA.

Earlier, the stalwart came under fire for having healthy waistlines. Cricket experts, fans criticised him for gaining some kilos in the lockdown period. Apart from him, all other Indian players travelled to Australia to play the ODI and T20I series.

There were reports that Rohit has been sweating it out to reduce his weight in order to play Test series in Australia. With fitness being an important factor to be in the playing XI, the 33-year-old star cricketer has worked extremely hard to bring his body to good shape.

Rohit Sharma passes the fitness test

In good news to Team India and its supporters, Rohit has successfully passed the fitness test. Rohit has been declared fit by the physios at the NCA. He is already ruled out of the first two Tests and it is likely that he may play the last two Tests. The flamboyant cricketer is expected to fly to Australia on December 13.

“He (Rohit) has passed the fitness test and the future course of action will be decided by the BCCI and the selection committee,” a close source in the know of developments said as quoted by Yahoo Cricket.

Hitman likely to play last 2 Tests

India’s cricket body had earlier notified that they will add limited-overs captain for the Test series once he attains desirable levels of fitness. “The BCCI Medical Team has been monitoring Rohit Sharma’s fitness and has briefed All-India Senior Selection Committee on the same.

In consultation with Sharma, it has been decided to rest him for the ODIs and T20Is in Australia to regain full fitness and he has been included in India’s Test squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy,” the BCCI added in a release on November 9.

The first Test will begin on December 17 at Adelaide Oval. The second match will be held at the MCG on December 26. The third Test match will start on January 7 at the SCG. The fourth and final Test match will be held on January 15 at The Gabba.
