Rohit will give you a double century if he fires: Ramiz Raja

Rohit Sharma has well and truly lived up to his potential as India’s specialist opening batsman. Now, he is looking forward to a great challenge ahead as India will lock horns with New Zealand in the ICC World Test Championship final in Southampton at The Ageas Bowl on June 18.

The 33-year-old veteran cricketer used to bat down the order in the purest form of the game. However, he didn’t find success batting in the middle order. But times really changed for Hitman as he was given an opportunity to bat as a Test opener and there was no looking back since then.

The star cricketer will be opening in a Test for the first time in England. It remains to be seen how he goes about his business. He just needs to keep his focus in England because there will be a tremendous movement. But once he gets set on the crease, there is no stopping him.

The flamboyant cricketer has consistently performed well in the World Test Championship. Having played 11 games, he scored 1030 runs at a sensational batting average of 64.37. He scored 4 centuries and 2 fifties to his name. Interestingly, he also ended up as the highest-scoring opener despite missing 6 WTC Tests.

Ramiz Raja speaks about Rohit Sharma

Pakistani cricket commentator Ramiz Raja reckons Rohit can take the attack to the cleaners if he gets going. During a recent discussion on India News, Ramiz Raja was asked if it is risky for Team India to open the innings with two attacking batsmen (Rohit and Shubman Gill).

Ramiz was of the notion that Rohit could play a significant knock if he fires. “It is not risky. If you have an opening pair like that, you need to back them. Rohit Sharma will give you a double hundred if he fires,” said Raja.

The commentator further went on to add saying that Rohit and Gill do not need to control their aggression. It is more important to be in the right space and rhythm and unleash the true potential.

“You don’t have to think much, you just have to go there and play your game. It is very important to be aggressive. The Indian batsmen base their attack on that because their thinking is aggressive,” said Ramiz.
