Shakib back in runs, Tamim-Shanto fire

Bangladesh batters have enjoyed a good day in the 45-over intra-squad match at BKSP, Savar.

Tamim XI comfortably beat Mehidy Hasan Miraz-led Mahmudullah XI by 8 wickets with 9.4 overs remaining. Mahmudullah Riyad did not take part in the match.

To Bangladesh’s relief Shakib Al Hasan has finally returned to some form with the bat in hand ahead of the three-match ODI series against West Indies. He made 52 runs off 82 balls for Mahmudullah XI.

Shakib’s innings saw him hitting just a four and a six coming in at number three.

After being sent into bat, Mahmudullah XI posted 223/7 in 45 overs. Opener Naim Sheikh was the only other with a fifty – 50 off 68 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes. Mosaddek Hossain scored a handy 37-ball 31.

Yasir Ali Rabbi was sent to open the innings and made 24 runs. Mushfiqur Rahim struck 27-ball 25.

Mahedi Hasan, who earned a maiden ODI call-up on Saturday, was the pick of the bowlers for his 2/32 in nine overs.

Liton Das and Tamim Iqbal put up a brisk opening stand of 77 runs before the latter got involved in a 107-run partnership with Najmul Hossain Shanto in the chase.

Liton played 53 balls for 48 runs that comprised nine boundaries.

Tamim retired himself on run-a-ball 80 runs. The ODI captain’s knock saw 5 fours and 3 sixes. Shanto hit 2 sixes and 7 fours in his 51-ball 61 runs before getting out to Taskin Ahmed, who recovered from a hand injury.

Hasan Mahmud, another newcomer, took one wicket for 31 runs in five overs. Shakib went wicketless for 21 runs in 3.2 overs.

Abu Jayed Rahi was not a part of Bangladesh’s preliminary ODI squad initially but he bowled two overs for 12 runs in Saturday’s match.
