Shakib fails again but Khulna beat Barishal by 48 runs

Gemcon Khulna have beaten Fortune Barishal for the second time in the ongoing Bangabandhu T20 Cup tournament. They beat Barishal by 48 runs on Friday (December 4) at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

Chasing the target of 174 runs, Barishal captain Tamim Iqbal and Parvez Hossain Emon started very well. They made 57-run partnership. But all-rounder Shuvagata Him took the wicket of both openers in 8th over of the match and turned the match for Khulna.

Tamim scored 32 runs off 21 balls with 1 six and 4 fours. All-rounder Afif Hossain was run out in the next over. After that, Khulna bowlers also became quite economical.

Then Towhid Hridoy and Irfan Sukkur tried to tackle the situation but Shakib Al Hasan broke their 31-run partnership. Then Hridoy fought alone for Barishal and just narrowed the gap of losing. At last, they were all out for 125 runs in 19.5 overs. Hridoy scored the highest 33 runs off 27 balls.

Shuvagata, Shahidul Islam and Hasan Mahmud took 2 wickets each for Khulna.

Earlier, Khulna tried another new opening pair at the top and failed again. But Zakir Hasan who came for Anamul Haque Bijoy played a match-winning innings in his first match of the tournament. With the help of his 63-run innings from 42 balls Khulna managed to score a big total of 173 runs in 20 overs.

Imrul Kayes scored 37 runs off 34 balls and captain Mahmudullah Riyad scored 24 runs off 14 balls. Two pacers of Barishal- Kamrul Islam Rabbi took 3 wickets and Taskin Ahmed took 2 wickets.
