Smith climbs to No.2 in Test batting rankings

The sport has become more and more competitive these days. Cricketers from their respective teams are working beyond the bounds of possibility only to help the team win matches. It is indeed good to see players coming through the ranks to represent the nation at the highest level.

Test cricket has seen plenty of players raising the standards over the years. Be it batsman, bowler or all-rounder, everyone had their fair share of moments and ultimately, they gained points to improve the rankings in the longest format of the game.

Kane Williamson dominates Test batting charts

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson has been in top form in Test cricket. Not a long ago, he scored an impressive 251 against West Indies in the Test match at home. He then followed it up with a magnificent century against Pakistan in the Test match.

The Kiwis captain once again upped his ante and scored a scintillating 238, which is his third double century in Tests. His batting exploits helped the team win games. Besides his batting, he also led the team ever so well in both the Test series as Kiwis completed 2-0 whitewash over West Indies and Pakistan respectively.

Kane strengthened his numero uno spot in the Test rankings with as many as 919 rating points, improving his previous record of 915 in December 2018. Meanwhile, Steve Smith gained points in the Test batting rankings as he overtook Indian captain Virat Kohli.

Kohli played the first Test at Adelaide Oval and travelled to India to attend the birth of his first child. He has already been ruled out of the last three Tests. Smith who was in bad form in the first two Tests scored 131 and 81 in the first and second innings of the SCG Test.

Smith secured 900 rating points whereas Indian skipper is third in the batting charts with 870 points. Marnus Labuschagne who has been quite productive in the home series against India also gained points in the rankings with 866 points.

The right-handed batsman who scored 91 and 73 in the SCG Test is ranked fourth. Ajinkya Rahane who scored a marvellous century in MCG Test is placed 7th with 756 points. On the other hand, Pujara who scored 50 and 77 in the SCG Test is ranked 8th with 753 rating points.

As far as bowlers’ rankings are concerned, Pat Cummins retained his spot with 908 points. Cummins took 4 wickets in SCG Test. His partner-in-crime Josh Hazlewood is 5th with 805 points. Mitchell Starc, Ravichandran Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah are ranked 8th, 9th and 10th respectively.
