We have to adapt without the experienced players : Riyad

Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Tamim Iqbal – all three senior cricketers were absent in the first T20I against New Zealand. Such a seen was seen in Bangladesh cricket after almost 15 years. The number of matches is 427. Bangladesh’s performance was also not up to the mark without them.

However, Bangladesh T20I captain Mahmudullah Riyad said that Bangladesh would have to cope with the situation without them. He also sees this as an opportunity for the youngsters to enter into the main team in absence of these senior cricketers.

Shakib did not visit New Zealand due to family reason. Tamim also went back to home after the ODI series. Mushfiqur was injured. So, pacer Shoriful Islam and Nasum Ahmed made their debut in the opening match of the T20I series. Riyad thinks it is an opportunity for them as well as Naim Sheikh and Afif Hossain to prove themselves.

“Yes I think it’s a good opportunity for the youngsters, especially for Naim Sheikh, Afif and two debutants. It’s an opportunity for them to show the world how good they are,” he said.

“We may not always get all the experienced players together, but we have to adapt to that. Someone has to come forward and show that he is capable of winning the match for Bangladesh,” he added.
