The Chennai Super Kings have lost for the sixth time this season. Will Chennai Super Kings qualify for playoffs 2022?
The defending champions, Chennai Super Kings, have lost their fifth game in the Indian Premier League 2022, becoming only the second side to do so this season.
While a fifth defeat in a sixth match is certain to affect the second-best team in the history of the world’s greatest T20 league, CSK will be much more devastated after losing a match they should’ve won.
The Chennai Super Kings did not produce a match-winning score after being sent in to bat first by Gujarat Titans at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium tonight, but they bowled very effectively to reduce the opposition to 48/4 in eight overs while defending a 170-run mark.
Super Kings, who have struggled with their death overs bowling this season, were found wanting once again as GT batsman David Miller and stand-in skipper Rashid Khan scored 48 runs in the final three overs to render Super Kings completely bewildered.
Will Chennai Super Kings qualify for playoffs 2022?
CSK are now eighth in the points standings, just ahead of Mumbai Indians (six losses in as many matches). While their prospects of making the playoffs are slim, only a miracle second half of the IPL 2022 league phase can see them finish among the Top Four teams.
In general, a club must win at least eight games in order to qualify for the playoffs in an IPL season. Historically, teams have qualified with seven victories as well, but only with a higher NRR (Net Run Rate).

Chennai can only hope to qualify for the IPL 2022 playoffs if they win seven of their remaining eight league games this season. Net Run Rate will enter the picture if they win six matches. Chennai is one of three teams with a negative NRR this season, with a value of -0.638.
Given their current form and team composition, it does not look that the Super Kings will make the IPL 2022 playoffs unless they perform a miraculous recovery. Readers must note that Ravindra Jadeja and his men will next face Mumbai in Navi Mumbai on Thursday.
