Gujarat Titans have given veteran India wicket-keeper batter Wriddhiman Saha his debut in the 29th match of the ongoing 15th season of the Indian Premier League in Pune tonight.

In the first five matches, Saha, 37, was not chosen over Australia’s wicket-keeper batsman Matthew Wade. The Titans included Saha in their playing XI for this match in order to maintain balance following the injury to captain Hardik Pandya, as well as Wade’s poor record (68 runs in five innings).

It is worth noting that Gujarat got Saha’s services for INR 1.9 crore after competing with reigning champions Chennai Super Kings in a huge auction earlier this year in Bengaluru.

Saha’s participation in this match makes him only the seventh player to play (at least) one match in each season of the IPL. Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Dinesh Karthik, Robin Uthappa, and Manish Pandey are among others who have done the same.

Saha made his IPL debut in 2008 for Kolkata Knight Riders (2008-2010) under former India captain Sourav Ganguly, and has subsequently played for Super Kings (2011-2013), Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings, 2014-2017), and Sunrisers Hyderabad (2018-2021).

Saha’s most successful IPL tenure was with Punjab, when he scored 1,115 runs in 49 innings at an average and strike rate of 24.77 and 131.95, respectively, with a century and five half-centuries.

Overall, Saha is the 39th top run-scorer in the world’s largest T20 event, with 2,110 runs scored at an average and strike rate of 24.53 and 128.73, respectively, including a century and eight half-centuries. With 82 wicket-keeping dismissals, Saha ranks fourth in the IPL for most dismissals by a wicket-keeper.
